Think this is modern 'homespun'. No idea of age. Does anyone know if either of the first two 11 yd lengths could be passable at a civil war event for a 40 yr old? (in other words, 1840-65) Especially with a reference link to why? I have had a time trying to find the right way to get at any info for acceptable cottons. Or, more specifically, what wouldn't be acceptable cottons.
1. 11 yds Tealish blue, with tan/brown plaid
2. 11 yds Navy blue, with 'natural' plaid (Washed in warm once, and no more. So, will not build a work dress from this. I like it navy.)
3. 3 yds Shades of brown plaid (for bias trim? Seeing how it's only 3 yds...)
4. 3 yds brown and beige check with some interesting selvage. Otherwise, about as boring as it looks.
5. 3 yds navy and white check seersucker
Thought it was just flat check, but washed it, and wow! I've never to my knowledge seen cotton seersucker before. Our stores only sold poly/poly blends. This stuff is rumored to be comfortable, vs the poly, which wasn't. I believe to use this for my prefered time periods, that it irons flat as I'd like.
